INDIANAPOLIS / DAYTON – A pair of Wright State male basketball players took home the Horizon League Weekly Awards, as a redshirt-junior Grant Basil was named Horizon League Player of the Week and AJ Braun won the first-year honors of the week, the league office said on Monday.
Basil earned his second Horizon League Player of the Week honor by scoring his sixth double-double of the season last Tuesday night to lead Wright State to an 84-70 victory at North Carolina State. Basil’s 23 points led four Raiders in a double-digit score, while his 16 rebounds were a game-high on the way to the evening’s double-double solo. Basil scored 12 points in the first half, ending the night shooting 9 of 16 from the floor as he filled his stats line with a pair of three points, four assists, a block and a steal. 35 minutes of action. Him and AJ Braun combined to help Wright State total 46 inside paint points in the victory.
Braun scored in double digits for the second time in his career Tuesday night as Wright State beat North Carolina State 84-70 on the road. Braun scored 13 points and took seven rebounds, while his six points scored in the first five minutes of the second half helped the Raiders cement control of the night. He added a pair of blocks on the defensive side and distributed a pair of assists across the field as he and Grant Basil combined to help Wright State total 46 inside paint points in the victory.
Wright State is planning a 20-game Horizon League streak to close out the regular season, with the Raiders staging their next four games against League foes. That stretch begins Thursday night as Wright State welcomes Milwaukee to town before welcoming Green Bay two days later to celebrate the New Year.
