Every week on Radio Milwaukee, Milwaukee Magazine food critic Ann Christenson and 88Nine resident foodie Tarik Moody discuss Milwaukee food culture and dining on This Bites.
In this week’s edition of This Bites, we talk about a new German restaurant on Brady Street and the rave review from Ann sur Birch, the restaurant formerly known as Birch + Butcher.
But first, we discuss the Milwaukee Public Market Harvest Festival. It’s October 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will take place in front of the market. It will feature a sample of Lakefront Brewery’s pumpkin ale (taken from a giant pumpkin), apple cider tastings, pumpkin bowling, and a scavenger hunt along the Milwaukee River. There will also be food trucks including Meat on the Street, Press Waffles and Lush Popcorn. Ann has full details on milwaukeemag.com.
Brady Street has a new German restaurant and bar
WürstBar is now open for business. The new German restaurant is located at 1239 E. Brady St. and offers a large selection of German and local draft beers.
“The menu at the WürstBar is a mix of traditional German dishes and modern street food. Classic German dishes include Spätzle, German potato salad, and sausages from the Usinger and Bunzel meat markets. Street food options will include Döner skewers, schnitzels and currywurst, ”reports Milwaukee Magazine. “The food menu will initially be available from opening until midnight daily. The restaurant will roll out a limited brunch program during the first few weeks of operation. “
This is a big deal for a city that prides itself on its German identity, but no longer has a great choice of German restaurants.
Hear us talk about all of that and more in this week’s episode below.
